Matilda Loisel and her Unhappiness
Matilda Liosel was a gorgeous married woman with high imagination. She aspired to be affluent and to live a wonderful life. She, on the other hand, was born into a family of clerks. She was also married to M Liosel, a clerk in the Board of Education’s office. Matilda believed she was destined for a life of opulence. She used to fantasise about formal dinners, good china, lovely gowns, and delectable fare. Her reality, however, was poverty, which made her unhappy. She was unhappy with her life and envious of her wealthy friend.
M Loisel brings an Invitation
M Loisel, Matilda’s husband, returned from his office one evening with a big letter. An invitation to a ball (party) at the Minister’s home was enclosed in the envelope. M Loisel assumed that his wife would be delighted to read the invitation, but Matilda was enraged and tossed the invitation away. Matilda was enraged when her husband informed her of his plans, telling him she didn’t have a nice outfit to go to the ball.
